The Luminous Fund: Over $125,000 Donated in 2022

By Adam Hayden

Summary

The Luminous Fund is our philanthropic fund started by Founder and CEO Kathy Carrier's family. Now in its sixth year, the Luminous Fund awarded grants to 21 organizations totaling more than $125,000. To learn more about the organizations we funded, check out this post and the Luminous Fund website.

What we do at Briljent is an extension of who we are as people. Our CEO and founder, Kathy Carrier, started Briljent in 1998 to form a company, “where everyone could have a voice … to take care of our people equally, listen to their ideas, value their contributions, and give them opportunities.”

That’s one reason why we established our Non-Negotiable Items (NNIs), to hold ourselves accountable to fostering a work environment that upholds this mission. But our culture and values don’t begin and end with our workdays—we’re also citizens, community members, coaches, mentors, patient advocates, and fundraisers.

Kathy and her family created The Luminous Fund to recognize Briljent’s employees outside of our virtual offices by calling on them to nominate community nonprofits that are near and dear to their hearts. Since its inception in 2016, The Luminous Fund has awarded close to $715,000 to nonprofit organizations across the country in the communities where our employees live.

Now in its sixth year, Kathy encourages The Luminous Fund Board to get to know the organizations who benefit from our grant funding. In 2022, the Board completed site visits and virtual meetings with several nonprofit organizations to understand their incredible impact on:

  • Health and wellness
  • Support for the aging population
  • Housing and homelessness
  • Veterans support and law enforcement
  • Women, infants, and children

Kathy also led the implementation of a new “Dollars for Doers” program for Briljent employees. Through this program, the Luminous Fund is making financial investments in nonprofits to match employee volunteer hours. In short, if our employees support an organization, so does The Luminous Fund.

This year, The Luminous Fund awarded grants to 21 organizations totaling more than $125,000. To learn more about the organizations we funded in 2022, head over to The Luminous Fund website.

As we head into the holiday season, we hope you’ll also be inspired to donate your time, money, talents, or resources to a nonprofit that aligns with your values. Maybe you’ll even find a new nonprofit that you can support with Radical Generosity on this Giving Tuesday! And if your values align with ours, we hope you’ll consider one of our open employment opportunities to join a company that will give back your community and the causes you care about.
